Most CRU Camps have a few campers who arrive not knowing anyone else. Our leaders are trained to watch, care for and help campers to feel part of the group. Camper surveys consistently show that over 95% of campers felt well cared for, made new friends, and want to come on camp again.
A team of young, committed, Christian leaders look after the campers. All leaders are reference checked, trained in child protection procedures and have completed government child protection requirements. In addition to a Camp Director and young adult volunteer leaders, primary camps also have a ‘camp mum and dad’ to support young campers who may feel homesick.
All CRU Camps have an unequalled standard of care with at least one leader for every five campers, meaning that your child will be well looked after.
Campers are normally accommodated in cabins, usually with bunk beds. Girls sleep in separate rooms to boys and there are leaders in or near each cabin block to ensure appropriate behaviour. Our camps take place at a variety of locations, but as a general guide we use sites with 6-10 beds in each room.
Absolutely! During the registration process, you can nominate the name/s of your child’s friend (of the same gender) as a preferred room mate. Camp directors use these preferences to guide their cabin allocations. However, if multiple campers are listed as room mate preferences, it may be difficult for directors to ensure every request.
Please be aware that during camp, the director reserves the right to separate campers for disciplinary reasons. Even if your child’s friend has not yet registered, you can nominate them as a room mate, however this does not guarantee their place on camp.
Two weeks before camp you will receive a ‘camp information pack’ by email with all the details of what your child will need to bring to camp. This information will also be available for download on the camps unique page on our website. See a typical pack list.
With over 70 CRU Camps featuring an extensive variety of exciting activities, each camp’s daily program is different. However, for a general idea, check out our typical camp day.
Each day of camp includes an engaging Christian Discovery session and small group discussion time for campers to chat about what they heard and ask questions about life and faith.
We understand it can feel strange to be out of contact with your child for a few days, especially if this CRU Camp is their first time away from home. Campers who wish to contact their parents may ask the director for permission to do so. We recommended that campers do not bring their mobile phones as they can be detrimental to building camp community and may encourage homesickness. Parents are given the contact details for the Camp Director and we recommend that, if needed, you contact your child via this method. Your child’s well being is our first priority. If they are finding camp difficult, or are not well, we will contact you at the first opportunity.
The camp listing will advise the drop off/pick up points for the camp. Some camps require self drop off/pick up at the site, while some camps outside Sydney or Perth may provide a drop off/pick up point and a bus to and from the site. Transport to and from day excursions is included.
We open camp registrations online generally around two school terms in advance (e.g. summer camp registrations open at the start of Term 3). You can also sign up for email updates, or follow us on Instagram or Facebook to ensure you don’t miss out on what’s happening at CRU Camps.
The number of spots left can be viewed when you login to your account and start the booking process. This information may be a little delayed as bookings are only confirmed once payment has been received. You may add your child to a waiting list if the camp is full.
Parents, legal guardians or caseworkers may complete the full registration process for their child or children. Campers aged 18 or older may complete the registration themselves. Carers without legal guardianship may partially complete a registration (with or without payment) which the guardian must complete to authorise the booking, provide personal medical information and secure the place.
Complete the first camper registration, then while you're still logged in to your account, click 'Book Your Camp' from the menu. Follow the prompts again and when the form asks who you are registering for, select 'Add new child'. Note that you will need to register each child separately then ‘make payment’ to secure the places.
If you are unable to use the online registration process, you can register your child over the phone by calling the CRU Camps office on 02 9874 8933 (option 1).

You’ll also need to talk to the camp director at camp in order to have your record book completed. Read more here.

Unfortunately this is not possible. If you need to cancel your child’s spot, we must offer their place to the next camper in line on the waiting list. If there is no waiting list and there is an open spot on camp, the friend or sibling can register (however there will still be a cancellation fee charged for your child).

The vast majority of campers have a great time on CRU Camps, although they may go through some highs and lows along the way – it’s all part of the learning experience. CRU Camp leaders will deal with any minor incidents/concerns in the first instance, and these can usually be resolved within the camp environment. The Camp Director will contact you if there is a significant health issue or medical incident, or if there is an emotional issue which cannot be resolved on camp. Be rest assured, over 95% of campers indicate on surveys that they love camp so much that they want to go on another one!
Every CRU Camp has at least two qualified Senior First Aid officers on team to offer immediate assistance where necessary. The Director of each camp has medical and emergency contact information if required. CRU Camps staff monitor emergency warnings and take precautions in the case of hazardous events.

Camp programs vary dependent on site schedules, but all camps include 35-45 hours of study per week (on a 7-day camp). See a day in the life of a study camper.
As we recruit the leadership team for each study camp, we look to include teachers, uni students and full-time workers with a wide range of expertise, graduate and post-graduate qualifications. Our leaders are committed to helping you achieve your study goals and think about post-school life! Leadership teams and qualifications vary between camps. While we aim to cover a broad range of subjects, we can’t guarantee what areas will be covered on each camp.
Definitely! The main focus of camp is to maximise independent study and IB Diploma students often use the distraction-free time to complete and gain feedback on their extended essays. In addition, assistance is provided by leaders in a range of common subject areas. A selection of camps each year may offer specific IB assistance and on every camp the leadership teams of university students, teachers and other graduates are able to give general assistance and essay feedback.
If you need to leave camp early or arrive at camp late, or leave camp for any period of time, you must bring a signed permission note from your parents addressed to the Camp Director. We also require that you notify the CRU Camps office before camp. No discounts are available for partial attendance at camp.
You can either register onto the waiting list or register for a different camp. See our Waiting List Questions for more details.
