Learn new skills, prepare the tracks and get qualified to teach kids to ride on camps.
The CRU Dirtbike Camps team run training and maintenance weekends before camps to prepare you, the bikes and the tracks for our Dirtbike camps.
Dirtbike training weekends are open to volunteers who are committed to leading on a dirt bike camp in the following camp seasons. Whether you are a keen rider or new to dirt bike riding, there’s great opportunities to learn and fellowship together. To ensure camps maintain high standards, the required training and assessment is focused on riding proficiency and teaching campers new skills.
Maintenance weekends happen in the middle of each year and after the Spring camps so that the tracks and bikes are ready for camp. There’s time to fellowship together while digging and clearing as well as over meals and a coffee or two!
After confirming that you’re volunteering on a camp, join the CRU Dirtbike Camps Facebook group for dates and details, or contact us to find out more.
Training days will be announced soon.

We run training for junior leaders on two of our CRU Camps during autumn and spring - Onward.
At Onward, you’ll receive training in running small groups, games, and managing campers. You’ll then put this into practice as a Junior Leader on camp and receive immediate feedback and mentoring from experienced camp leaders.
Does this sound like you?
If you’re still in high school and would like to be trained in leadership, we have some camps that would be great for you to attend:
Feel free to email [email protected] for more information about Onward or CrossTrain.
You need to be at least 15 years old (and preferably two years older than the campers you intend to lead).
Please note: To make sure we have great leader to camper ratios and keep camp costs down, we ask volunteers to cover about 40% of their cost. A leader sponsorship fund exists to help leaders for whom this fee would be prohibitive.
Yes, you will need to complete the Working With Children Check form and requirements. If you fail to complete these steps, or are not cleared, you will not be eligible to volunteer on a CRU Camp.
If a volunteer is injured whilst traveling to or attending a camp and requires medical treatment that is not covered by Medicare or personal health insurance, CRU or CRU's insurer will most likely be able to cover the costs provided the volunteer was acting in accordance with established guidelines. Cover is not provided for personal property except in specially arranged circumstances.
Being a camper or leader on a CRU Camp is a great way to achieve the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award Residential Project requirement. It’s always best to check with your supervisor to make sure the particular camp meets the exact requirements. You’ll also need to talk to the camp director at the camp in order to have your record book completed. See more.
Yes, to help keep fees as low as possible for campers and to make sure we have great leader to camper ratios, we ask leaders to contribute to their food and accommodation costs. The leader’s fee is usually about 40% of what it costs for CRU Camps to actually send a leader on camp. See an overview of pricing for volunteers.
Yes. We don’t want anyone to miss out on the opportunity to volunteer on camps due to cost. As many volunteers are university students without part-time work, we know that sometimes it’s a struggle to pay camp fees.
Our Sponsorship Fund exists to provide financial assistance if needed. Please submit this request well before camp by checking the fee assistance box towards the end of the registration process, filling in this sponsorship for volunteers form OR a part payment request in advance or contacting the CRU Camps office on 02 9874 8933 (option 1).
Check out the Expressions of Interest page for general volunteer requirements. In addition to mandatory child protection and safety training, specific training requirements vary depending on your role on camp.
Yes, in addition to the required child protection training, CRU Camps runs a number of training events each year including day events, weekends, camps for junior leaders, first aid and bronze medallion courses. Further leadership training is provided by the director of each camp and CRU staff to supplement your CRU Camp volunteer manual.
There are many different roles for volunteers on camp. You can read a brief description of each role, and your camp director will provide you with more specific information about your specific responsibilities.
